Fun Math Games That Even Non-Nerds Will Love For Game Night

Proof!

Proof! is a Teacher’s Choice Award game for math and number game, but don’t let that ruin your fun.

This is a fast paced math game where players practice multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, and square roots.

(I see the sweat bead forming on your forehead, btw…)

Players make an equation and the show proof. If it’s correct, you keep the cards. The players with the most cards when the deck runs out wins.

One of the most popular games for math right now, so definitely add it to your games in cool math or if you just want to show off in front of your friends.

Tabletop Tetris Is Fun Family Game Night Game - text with 5 star review over Tetris board game

Tetris

Did you know that you can play your favorite shapes game Tetris as a tabletop game?

(For real. I wouldn’t joke about Tetris.)

Tabletop Tetris is a great way to practice shapes and geometry and really gets your math strategy brain working.

Players play simultaneously with the same shapes and do their best to strategically fill up rows with shape tiles.

You have to play the current shape, but also look at the upcoming shape card and plan ahead to where the current shape tile and the next shape will land (you know, just like the online Tetris game).

Make the wrong choice and you will block yourself from making a full row and prove to everyone what a loser you are.

I was super skeptical of a physical Tetris game version, but definitely get it. If you love traditional Tetris, you won’t be sorry.

Sudoku

Did you also know that you can play Sudoku as a board game?!

(What is going on here?!)

You don’t even have to play these math games on paper anymore!

Players get the same Sudoku puzzle and see who can solve it first, with the goal of completing a grid that contains all of the digits from 1 to 9.

If your family loves puzzle games and have enjoyed traditional Sudoku, pick this one up for family game night.

Fun Dice Game For Family Game Night (Maths Games) - Even Stevens Odd Dice Game on a table for Game Parties

Even Steven’s Odd

As a self-professed math disliker, I’m not even sad to tell you that Even Steven’s Odd! is funny dice game that our family loves.

(Probably because it comes with a big math dice squishy Steven, but whatev.)

In the game, you flip a card to reveal a math challenge.

Then, everyone tries to get the answer to the challenge at the same time by rolling their own math dice.

The first person to get the answer grabs the squishy Steven dice to win (without it turning into a game of tackle football). (Only our family? OK. Nevermind.)

Adsumudi Math Game

ADSUMUDI is another fun game that allows kids to sharpen mental math skills and math fact practice, but it’s a challenging game for adults, too.

In Adsumudi, game players work through different challenges, like use three cards to make the answer and win the math challenges.

I love this game because it has four different difficulty levels and then multiple ways to play — even a single player math challenge mode. (But what fun is that?! Who are you going to competitively yell at? Yourself? I think not…)

Smath

Smath is a crossword game of math and, I’m not going to lie, this really isn’t my thing. (Mainly because it takes me back to high school where the teacher loved to embarrass those of us who were, uh, less than in math.)

However, if you have a family of smarty-smarts and school math memories don’t make you curl up in a fetal position in the corner *ahem*, then you might like this board game.

Instead of making words (like Scrabble), math players are making equations with their tiles. Add up your tiles, just like you would in Scrabble, to win with high scores.

You can play it as addition, subtraction, multiplication or division, so you can get different math learning levels out this game / create new levels.

Target Math Game

Target is a crazy math game! It’s a fast-paced card game and it gets kids to practice mental math for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and even problem solving skills.

And, tests adults skills on things they forgot about, like, 27 years ago…

Anyway…

To play this maths game, players solve an equation with the cards in their hand using any combination of addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division.

If you’re the first to answer questions, you win the target card.

First to five target cards wins and gets the ultimate smarty pants bragger rights that they’ll remind you of for 22 more game nights.

I love that this card game has three ways to play and three difficulty levels, so you can adjust it meet your math learning levels up or down.

(You know, like using only the basic addition level if you’re playing with me.)

Great for maths games for learning times tables, addition facts, subtraction games, too.

Shut The Box Dice Game

Shut The Box is also about addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and logic skills.

Roll the dice and then turn down any tiles with different numbers that add up to the sum of the dice.

This is one of those cool math games you can play with younger kids and adults together and everyone will have fun!

SKYJO Card Game For Family Game Night (FAST AND EASY GAMES) - text over image of SKYJO card game spread on a gaming tabletop

SKYJO Card Game

SKYJO is another one of our favorite maths games (see? I do like some math games).

This is great for practicing adding, subtracting, and even positive numbers and negative numbers, but don’t let that deter you. It’s a really fun strategy card game.

Players place cards face down in a grid in front of them. The goal of the game is to get as few points as possible by drawing and/or swapping cards.

When someone gets to 100 points (over the course of several hands), the person with the lowest score wins.

*We adapted this to just play rounds (“hands”) and not keep score. We play hands as the first person to turn over their all their cards, then the hand ends. Then, all players must turn over all their cards and tally (adding and subtracting) their score.

Person with lowest score wins.

We found playing hands instead of an entire game to 100 is better because it’s faster and we can stop whenever we want, which makes this a quick and easy game when you have a time crunch. You can get in a few hands in just a few minutes.

This is definitely one of those cool math games that you can play with a variety of ages and is one of our go to math games.

(We’re including this as one of the best math games for adults, too, because my husband and I like playing it with just us!)

Multiplication Splat Maths Card Game

In Splat! Math, the caller reads an answer. The players must scan their cards and see if they have the math facts for that answer.

If they do, they say “SPLAT!” and flip the card face down.

The first person to flip all their cards face down wins the game.

They also have Splat Addition, Splat Subtraction and other Spat games that aren’t math topics.
